DPF Cleaning

DPF Cleaning

A DPF Cleaning can be performed multiple ways depending on the type of filter being cleaned. The process for cleaning active and passive filters can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. In general, cleaning a diesel particulate filter should only be performed by certified service providers. Most manufacturers have specific guidelines, which they provide to their certified service providers to ensure filters are cleaned properly to prolong filter life.  Using only certified service providers will ensure your filters are cleaned correctly as well as professionally and properly maintained.

DPF Cleaning – Global DPF

DPF Cleaning is a process in which trapped or collected particulate matter is removed and or oxidized.   Particulate matter is oxidized when baked in a kiln at high temperature for a prolonged period of time. When cleaning the Global DPF, it is important to know how the accumulation of soot occurred; this may change the cleaning process for some filters. The Global DPF is an active filter and most of the soot should be oxidized during the regeneration process. Barring any unusual accumulation, the Global DPF should only have to be cleaned once a year.

Cleaning – Global DPF Cleaning Procedure

When DPF Cleaning, there are multiple steps that should be followed to ensure your Global DPF filter is cleaned properly.  The Global DPF filter element is easy to remove and reinstall because of its modular design.

  1. Carefully remove filter element from the burner.
  2. Weigh filter element and record current weight.
  3. Visually inspect the filter for soot accumulation.
  4. High-pressure water wash the filter thoroughly.
  5. Visually inspect the filter for residual conglomerate particulate matter.
  6. Bake in a kiln for 6 to 8 hours at specified temperatures.
  7. Vacuum or blow out the filter to remove the residual ash.
  8. Visually inspect the filter to ensure all particulate matter has been removed.
  9. Carefully reinstall the filter to the burner.

DPF Cleaning

The DPF cleaning system has become a basic necessity for most cars, not because they increase car efficiency but also because they prevent environmental degradation. It is imperative to note that, although the DPF system prevents dust and un-burnt soot particles to escape from the engine, DPF itself needs to be cleaned. The basic indication which warns an individual, against large quantities of soot accumulation, is a cautionary light which starts to blink when cleaning is required. It is hence advised that a concerned individual should take appropriate measures to ensure that that the gadget works properly.

DPF Cleaning – Instruction Manual

Additionally, some people tend to think that a warning light means that they have to immediately attend to their device. On the contrary, it is just an indication that instructions have to be followed to clean the equipment. If the instruction manual has been lost then the person can just follow the following instructions.

Firstly, the person needs to be certain that the engine management light is not on. This intelligent system is usually installed in many cars these days and ensures the safety of its users. Secondly, about a quarter of the engine tank should be full. This will facilitate the car to burn out any un-burnt matter so that environmental degradation does not take place.  A good way to fasten up the DPF cleaning process is to turn on all the electrical gear in the vehicle. This will increase battery consumption and consequently increase fuel ingestion. This will then lead to an increase in engine temperature.

Furthermore, a long road needs to be found so that the person is able to drive the vehicle. This long road will facilitate the candidate to drive faster, hence, enabling the car engine to gain higher temperatures. The vehicle should be driven until its normal temperature has been reached. The next step will be to maintain a RPM of two thousand. An RPM of two thousand allied with manual gear changing increases fuel consumption. This process should be continued until either the light turns off or approximately thirty miles have been covered. All these aforementioned steps will enable the vehicle to do DPF cleaning by itself.

DPF Cleaning – Certified Service Providers

Another way to counter this problem will be to go to a professional. Professionals are able to approach the problem in a more specialized way. Going to a professional comes in handy when the person is unable to solve the problem himself. Most DPF cleaning systems last the life the automobile, if they are paid considerable attention. Problems arise when the device is not cleaned on time which results in large amounts of soot build up. This soot then blocks the DPF and sometimes may cause permanent damage by clinging to the walls of the device strongly.
